45bet.comEuropean Union has recognized Brazil as free from avian flu, allowing the resumption of chicken meat exports to the bloc.
In a post on the social network X, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro said he held a videoconference with European Union Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi to discuss the issue.
“We have good news: the recognition of Brazil’s status as free from avian influenza, which will allow us to resume exports to Europe,” he said.
The bloc’s member states suspended imports in May after a case of avian influenza was detected at a commercial farm in Montenegro, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
In June, Brazil declared itself free from the disease after disinfecting the affected farm and reporting no new cases for 28 consecutive days.
In total, 41 countries have already lifted the embargo. On August 25, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Namibia, and North Macedonia removed restrictions on the import of Brazilian chicken meat. Canada, China, Malaysia, Pakistan, and East Timor still maintain the embargo.
The minister also said that the European Union commissioner has committed to holding a meeting with the bloc’s member states to remove sanitary barriers to imports of Brazilian chicken and to resume pre-listing - a mechanism that exempts Brazilian companies from additional audits, allowing them to export to the EU. This process has been suspended since 2018.
“His commitment is that, in the coming weeks, the member states of the European Community will meet to remove the reinforced controls and resume pre-listing, which is so important for Brazil and has been suspended since 2018,” added Fávaro.
